Petition seeking exemption in mobile bill during Corona period dismissed in Delhi High Court

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has dismissed the petition seeking directions to telecom companies in the wake of the Corona epidemic that consumers who are currently unable to pay their bills. Their mobile services should not be blocked. During the hearing on the petition, the High Court said that every person is going through some problem during the Corona era, but we cannot order telecom companies to do charity.

The court said that at present, a lot of people need to eat in this era of corona epidemic, but in such a situation, the courts cannot give any order to hotels that hotels should provide free food to all the needy. Similarly, the court cannot issue orders to provide free mobile services to telecom companies.

In fact, lawyer Priyatham Bhardwaj had filed a PIL in Delhi HC, stating that due to Corona, people are currently going through a financial crisis. In such a situation, many people have not been able to deposit their mobile bills. Therefore, the telecom service provider should be instructed through the court that the incoming call and SMS facility on the mobiles of such people should not be discontinued until the problem of Corona epidemic is relieved.
