In recent times, the price of vehicle fuel has risen. The Finance Minister said that the Center and States should discuss to reduce the burden of increased prices on customers. In a discussion with the students of Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-Ahmedabad) on Thursday, Sitharaman said that both the Center and the states should discuss to reduce the central and state tax on fuel.

Asked whether the Center was considering reducing the cess or other tax for the relief of higher prices to consumers, Sitharaman said that this question has put them in a 'religion-crisis'. She said that the fact is that the center receives revenue from it is not hidden. This is the same thing with the territories. I agree that the burden on the common man should be reduced. Earlier in the day, Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das said that there is a need for coordinated action between the Center and the states to reduce the tax on petrol and diesel.

Sitharaman took a dig at the consumers demanding minimum support price (MSP), asking why the Congress-ruled United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government was in power before 2014, when it was not legislated. Apart from postponing the three new agricultural laws, the farmers sitting on the Delhi border is also demanding a legal guarantee for the MSP. The Finance Minister said that these laws are not about MSP. She said that this protest is about the agricultural laws passed in Parliament in September last year. These laws have nothing to do with MSP. She added, "MSP is not a part of these three laws. t is not right to oppose the three laws and thereafter raise the issue of MSP. ''
