The latest prices of petrol and diesel have been released by oil marketing companies. Today, 16th January 2022 across the country, there has been no change in the prices of vehicle fuel petrol and diesel. Petrol and diesel prices at the national level have been stable since November 2021. Even then, in many states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, the price of petrol is beyond Rs. 100 per litre. According to the latest update from Indian Petroleum Marketing Company Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), petrol in Delhi rests at Rs 95.41 and diesel at Rs 86.67 per litre on January 16. Coming to the four major metros (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai), Mumbai, the economic capital of the country, has the highest fuel prices. Petrol in Mumbai is around Rs 110 while diesel is across Rs 94 per litre.

Let me tell you that petrol and diesel prices vary in the states due to VAT and freight rates on oil. Coming to metros, petrol and diesel are the cheapest in Delhi. Just before Diwali, on November 3, after the Central Government reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10 respectively, all states had also reduced VAT on petrol. Since then, there has been no change in the prices of vehicle fuel petrol and diesel at the national level.
