In addition, Kolkata is selling petrol for Rs 104.67 and diesel for Rs 89.79. Chennai is getting one litre of petrol for Rs 101.40 and diesel for Rs 91.43.

The Central Government had reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel prices by giving gifts to the people on the occasion of Deepawali. The government had reduced petrol by five rupees and diesel by ten rupees. Thereafter, oil prices registered a sharp fall. Subsequently, NDA ruled states like Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh etc. also reduced vat on petrol and diesel in the state. A few days later, the Congress and the opposition-ruled states of Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, had also reduced the VAT on oil.
