The Prime Minister has reached to take a look of the situation of Kerala, which is suffering from heavy floods. He will assess the situation today and then meet with the Kerala chief minister and the government officials. In this tragedy, 106 people have died in a single day. Meanwhile, since August 8, the number of dead has increased to 324 due to floods. 2 lakh people have become homeless. In many parts of central Kerala, the traffic system is inconvenient. Filling of water has been stopped by Kochi airport till August 26. All 35 dams, including Mullaperiyar, have been filled up, from which water is being released continuously. 

Before leaving for Kerala, the Prime Minister tweeted, "I and Kerala Chief Minister P. Vijayan talked about the situation of the flood in the state and took a look of the rescue work." Sources linked to the state's Disaster Management Authority said that to protect the people stranded in the worst affected areas, the defence forces hastened the rescue operation from Friday morning.  

It is said that the staff of Army, Navy, Air Force and NDRF started work on the removal of the stranded people from the affected Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta and Thrissur districts on Friday. Many elderly people including young children, women were rescued. 

Significantly, Home Minister Rajnath Singh has already done some air surveys in some districts of Kerala. After the survey, Rajnath had said that the situation in Kerala has really worsened. After this, he also announced a package for Kerala. The Kerala government also appealed to people to donate money for the help of flood victims. 

On Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had announced a grant of Rs 10 crore to Kerala. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar has also announced a grant of Rs 25 crore.
