 NEW DELHI: As the Ayush Ministry signed an agreement with the WHO on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his delight that India would be the home of the Global Centre for Traditional Medicine.

The Ayush Ministry and the World Health Organization (WHO) have signed a host nation agreement for the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine to be established in Jamnagar, with an interim office at the Gujarat Institute of Training and Research in Ayurveda.

PM Modi expressed the hope that the centre will help to make the world a healthier place by harnessing our rich traditional practises for the greater benefit.

In response to tweets from the Ayush Ministry and the World Health Organization, Prime Minister Modi tweeted, "India is proud to be host to the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine, which is state-of-the-art. This centre will help to make the world a better place by harnessing our rich traditional practises for the greater benefit." "India's traditional remedies and health practises are extremely popular around the world. This WHO Centre will go a long way toward improving our society's overall health ", he added in a subsequent tweet.

Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, also tweeted on the occasion, saying, "With India's expertise, the world would be better off! Ayurveda, India's traditional medicine, has carved out a niche for itself around the world. The WHO's 'Global Centre for Traditional Medicine,' which will be established in Jamnagar, Gujarat, will be of significant benefit to the global community and will help traditional medicine expand ".
