Beijing: The Upper Trishuli 3A Hydroelectric Project, prepared by the Chinese Kachopa Group Limited Company in Nepal, has been formally launched on Monday. In a special program, Nepal's Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has started it in the capital Kathmandu. Oli inaugurated the 60 MW hydropower generation project in PM Bhavan by pressing the symbolic button and also watched the video of the project along with other officers.

Oli said that the use of Upper Trishul hydroelectricity will reduce the import of electricity in the country and will give strength to economic development. It will help industrialization and agricultural modernization. He said that Nepal's economy will be strengthened after completion of other under construction hydroelectric projects. The Upper Trishul Hydro Power Station is located in the Rasuwa region of Nepal, adjacent to the China border.

It is located 32 km from Chilong County, bordering the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. There are a total of two generator sets in this hydro power plant. Each has a production capacity of 30 MW. A total amount of US $ 150 million was invested to prepare this project. In May and August this year, both generator sets started operating. It has been told that this hydro power plant will fulfill the electricity demand of about eight percent in Nepal. Construction of this project started in June 2011.
