An Army MI-17 helicopter crashed at Kannur in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. The helicopter caught fire due to the accident in dense forests. The helicopter was carrying 14 Army officers including Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika. General Rawat has been admitted to the Military Hospital in Wellington. But there is no statement from the army so far on how their situation is. Rawat served as army chief from 31 December 2016 to 31 December 2019. He then took over as Chief of Defence Staff on 1st January, 2020. He is India's first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). After this accident, MI-17 helicopter is being discussed. 1- The speed of this helicopter is 250 kmph. It is also capable of flying up to a maximum height of 6000 metres. It can cover a distance of 580 kilometres at a time.

3- The same helicopter was also used as commando operation due to 26/11 attack.
4- MI-17V5 was the aircraft that destroyed the Pakistani launch pad and carried out a major operation like surgical strike.
5- This helicopter can accommodate 24 persons at a time. At a time, the aircraft can carry 4000 kg.
