NEW DELHI: Legendary Indian Comedian Raju Srivastava on Wednesday passed away in Delhi at the age of 58, his family confirmed.

On August 10, Raju Srivastava had a heart attack while exercising in a hotel. He had angioplasty after being shifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He was put on a ventilator after that and never regained consciousness.

The comedian's death was lamented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said, "Raju Srivastava made our lives happier by making us laugh and being positive. He leaves us too soon, but because of his prolific work over the years, he will live on in the hearts of countless people.  His demise is saddening. Condolences to his whole family and admirers. Om Shanti."

Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, Yogi Adityanath, Arvind Kejriwal, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were among the leaders who expressed their condolences for the comedian's passing.

"Raju Srivastava is no more with us. I offer my prayers and condolence for his soul's peace on behalf of the people of Uttar Pradesh. My condolences go out to his family "Chief Minster of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath said. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also condoled his death. Akhilesh Yadave said, "He was from a poor household and achieved supreme fame all due to his hardwork and talent.
