Russian President Vladimir Putin was also present on the occasion. Before the start of the summit, leaders of all nations participated in the group photo.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif are also attending the SCO summit. On Thursday morning, the leaders had started reaching Samarkand, but PM Modi reached the historic city late in the evening. By then the formal dinner and other events were over. After the SCO Summit, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Putin and Raisi. The special thing is that Chinese President Jinping did not appear in the pictures of the programs held on Thursday evening. Apparently, he had decided to stay away from these programmes.

According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), on Thursday, before leaving for Samarkand, PM Modi said 'At the SCO summit, I will discuss topical, regional and international issues, the expansion of the SCO and the multi-faceted and mutually beneficial relationship within the organization. I look forward to exchanging ideas on how to deepen the beneficial cooperation.
