New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the recent Supreme Court ruling regarding the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir as a momentous occasion, terming it historic. The apex court stood firm in its decision, refusing to overturn the government's move to revoke the special provisions for the state.
Describing the SC's decision as a resounding declaration of hope, PM Modi took to the social media platform 'X' to express his satisfaction with the court's verdict. He emphasized that the court's validation of the Parliament's 2019 decision to annul Article 370 was a constitutional affirmation. August 5, 2019 marked the pivotal day when the Centre took the decisive step to revoke this article.
PM Modi underscored that the court's decision resonated as a beacon of hope, progress, and unity for the residents of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. He highlighted how this ruling upheld the fundamental essence of unity, a cherished sentiment among all citizens. Closing his remarks, the Prime Minister lauded the Supreme Court's decision as a symbol of hope and a commitment to a brighter future. He reiterated that this ruling would bolster the resolve to fortify India, making it stronger and more united.
It's noteworthy that the Central government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, had nullified the provisions of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. A petition contesting this decision and seeking a return to the pre-Article 370 status quo was presented before the Supreme Court. After an exhaustive 16-day hearing, the court reserved its judgment in September, finally delivering its verdict on Monday.
