New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone to Uzbekistan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting today. He was accorded a warm welcome by Uzbekistan Prime Minister Abdullah Aripov, Samarkand Governor and senior officials on his arrival. In fact, PM Modi will participate in the SCO Summit as well as hold bilateral meetings with the President of Uzbekistan and many leaders participating in the summit. Let us also tell you that the heads of state of Russia, China and Pakistan are participating in this meeting. It is expected that PM Modi may have separate talks with Russian President Putin and Chinese President Jinping.
Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi will attend the summit. According to reports, the eight members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) are China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Not only this, but apart from this, the four observer countries are Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia. The six dialogue partners are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Turkey. The SCO is headquartered in Beijing, the capital of China.
The regional multilateral organisation was established in 2001 with members from Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, while India and Pakistan became full members in 2017. Let us tell you that this time the SCO summit is very important for India because India will chair the next summit to be held in September 2023. Leaders of China, Russia and Pakistan are expected to attend it.
