NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, April 4,, underlined the need for an integrated response to disasters, saying disaster in one region can have a big impact on a completely different region in a closely connected world.
He mentioned that 40 nations have joined the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure in recent years during his video talk at the International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure 2023.
The conference has developed into a crucial venue for bringing together the global north and south, large and small nations, and advanced and developing economies. He said infrastructure is not merely about returns but also about reach and resilience.
In addition, he emphasised the importance of taking a comprehensive approach to infrastructure, saying that it should leave no one behind and should be there for everyone, even during times of crisis.
Social and digital infrastructure is as important as transport infrastructure, the Prime Minister said. He noted the occurrences of the heat wave that had devastated India and Europe, the cyclones, and the most recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria as recent calamities that serve as a reminder of the scope of issues facing the world.
