Pune: Even as India celebrates 75 years of independence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a reduction in "slavery to foreign commodities."

PM Modi said the emphasis should be on the 'voice for local' motto and limiting the usage of imported goods while inaugurating the Jain International Trade Organisation's 'JITO Connect 2022 business meet via video conferencing.

"Today, the country is doing everything it can to promote talent, trade, and technology. Every day, the government registers dozens of new businesses, creating a unicorn every week "he stated.  "A self-sufficient India is both our path and our commitment," Modi stated.

He claims that now people from rural areas, tiny businesses, and self-help groups can sell their goods directly to the government. "Today, the Government E-Market Place (GeM) platform has more than 40 lakh sellers," he noted, adding that the government processes have become more transparent.
