NEW DELHI: Surpassing a significant milestone, the count of Jan Dhan accounts has now exceeded 50 crores, a feat that garnered commendation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This accomplishment strongly underscores the government's unwavering dedication to ensuring widespread accessibility to banking services, as stated in an official announcement.

Prime Minister Modi conveyed his pleasure at reaching this momentous achievement and underscored the vital role of women's empowerment in this success.

"This indeed marks a moment of great significance. It's truly heartening to observe that over half of these accounts are under the ownership of our esteemed Nari Shakti," he remarked.

The phrase "Nari Shakti" denotes the collective vigor and potency of women.

In a tweet, PM Modi further highlighted the extensive scope of endeavors aimed at financial inclusion, expressing, "By having 67% of these accounts established in rural and semi-urban regions, we are ensuring that the advantages of financial inclusion permeate every nook and cranny of our nation."

Introduced in August 2014, the Jan Dhan Yojana has played an essential role in integrating millions of previously unbanked and underbanked individuals into the structured banking framework.

The initiative aspires to furnish financial amenities such as savings accounts, insurance, and credit facilities to individuals who were formerly excluded from the banking sphere.

The program's triumph in reaching remote rural areas and semi-urban locales, coupled with its substantial female engagement, effectively underscores its potency in bridging financial disparities and conferring empowerment upon individuals throughout the nation.
