Chennai:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his 45-hour meditation at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanniyakumari, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday, where he also paid floral tributes to the Tamil saint-poet Thiruvalluvar. The spiritual retreat lasted from the evening of May 30 to the evening of June 1.

During his stay, PM Modi meditated continuously at the Dhyan Mandapam, the site where Swami Vivekananda is believed to have received a divine vision of 'Bharat Mata'. This period of meditation coincided with the final phase of polling for the Lok Sabha elections. Modi arrived at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial on Thursday. According to local mythology, this location is also where Goddess Parvati meditated on one foot while waiting for Lord Shiva. Situated at the southernmost tip of India, Kanniyakumari is the confluence of the Eastern and Western coastlines, as well as the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal, and Arabian Sea. PM Modi's visit here is seen as a symbolic gesture of national unity.

Prior to his spiritual retreat, the Prime Minister concluded his election campaign in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, on Thursday, ahead of the final phase of the general elections on June 1. Over a span of 75 days, Modi participated in approximately 206 election campaign events, including rallies and roadshows, and gave around 80 interviews to various media outlets. Known for undertaking spiritual journeys at the end of election campaigns, Modi visited Kedarnath in 2019 and Shivaji's Pratapgarh in 2014. The Lok Sabha election, comprising 543 seats, is being conducted in seven phases starting from April 19, with vote counting scheduled for June 4.
