New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his congratulations to Paetongtarn Shinawatra following her election as the Prime Minister of Thailand. In a message posted on X, Modi expressed his best wishes for her success and looked forward to collaborating with her to enhance the bilateral relationship between India and Thailand.

"Congratulations @ingshin on your election as the Prime Minister of Thailand. Best wishes for a very successful tenure," PM Modi wrote. He further added, "Look forward to working with you to further strengthen the bilateral ties between India and Thailand, which are based on the strong foundations of civilizational, cultural, and people-to-people connections." Earlier in the day, Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn officially endorsed Paetongtarn Shinawatra as the country's next prime minister. Her appointment follows a turbulent period in Thai politics, during which the Constitutional Court ousted her predecessor, Srettha Thavisin, from the Pheu Thai party.

With the king's endorsement now formalized, Paetongtarn Shinawatra is expected to begin the process of assembling her Cabinet in the coming weeks. Her confirmation by the Thai Parliament marks her as the youngest-ever prime minister of Thailand. Paetongtarn, commonly known as Ung Ing, is the youngest child of billionaire tycoon Thaksin Shinawatra. She follows in the footsteps of her father and her aunt in holding the nation's highest office. The ruling coalition of the Pheu Thai party confirmed her nomination, ensuring her ascension to the role.
