PM Modi congratulates Vladimir Putin on his re-election as Russian President

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday, had a telephonic conversation with the Russian President Vladimir Putin and congratulated the latter for his victory in the presidential elections held in Russia on Sunday.

He said he was hopeful that Indo-Russian relationship will thrive positively under the leadership of Putin. Ministry of External Affairs released a statement sharing details about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s conversation with the Russian President.

“Conveying his compliments Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed hope that under Putin's leadership, 'Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership' between India & Russia will continue to grow. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also stated he looks forward to welcoming President Putin in India for Annual Summit later this year,” according to a statement by Ministry of External Affairs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also invited the re-elected Russian President to India to attend the Annual Summit later this year.

On Sunday, Vladimir Putin was re-elected as the President of Russia for another term of six years. This will be his fourth term which will end in 2024. After two-thirds of the ballots were counted, a whopping 75 percent of the votes were cast in Putin’s favour. Communist Party candidate Pavel Grudinin was the runner-up with 12.7 percent votes.
