Prime Minister Narendra Modi, preparing for his visit to conflict-torn Ukraine, expressed optimism for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis. Speaking before his trip, Modi emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation in restoring stability to the region.

"I look forward to continuing discussions with President Zelenskyy on strengthening our bilateral ties and exchanging views on how peace can be achieved in Ukraine. As a friend and partner, we are hopeful for the swift return of stability in the area. I believe this visit will further cement our relations with Ukraine and set the stage for a stronger future together," Modi stated ahead of the trip.

The visit to Ukraine, scheduled for August 23, comes at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), this visit marks a significant milestone in the diplomatic relationship between the two nations, which was established approximately 30 years ago.

First Indian PM Visit in Three Decades

This historic trip will be the first by an Indian prime minister to Ukraine in over three decades. India's approach to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which began in February 2022, has consistently been one of promoting dialogue and diplomacy as the path to a lasting peace.

"Prime Minister Modi will undertake an official visit to Ukraine on Friday, August 23, at the invitation of President Zelenskyy," stated a senior MEA official during a briefing.

"This is a landmark moment in the history of our bilateral relations. The visit will build on recent high-level engagements between the leaders of both nations and will strengthen our ties," the official added.

India continues to maintain strong and independent relationships with both Russia and Ukraine, and these partnerships are based on mutual respect and cooperation.
