New Delhi:  On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign during the 111th episode of his 'Mann Ki Baat' radio program. Launched on World Environment Day, June 5, this initiative encourages people globally to plant a tree in honor of their mothers, celebrating both motherhood and environmental stewardship.

In his address, PM Modi emphasized the deep significance of the maternal bond, stating, "If I ask you which is the most precious relationship in the world, you will definitely say - 'Mother'. In all our lives, the status of 'mother' is the highest. A mother nurtures her child despite facing every pain. This love is a debt we cannot repay, but we can honor it in meaningful ways." He shared that he has personally planted a tree in memory of his own mother and urged citizens worldwide to do the same.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the unique 'Karthumbhi Umbrellas' from Kerala, made by tribal women in Attappady. "Today in 'Mann Ki Baat', I want to introduce you to a special umbrella from Kerala. These colorful umbrellas are crafted by our tribal sisters and are gaining popularity nationwide. They are sold online and produced under the Vattalakki Cooperative Agricultural Society, showcasing the power of women-led initiatives," PM Modi said.

He praised the entrepreneurial spirit of the tribal community in Attappady, noting their efforts to expand their craft beyond local markets. "This community has not only set up a bamboo handicraft unit but is also preparing to open a retail outlet and traditional café. Their goal is to promote their culture and traditions while being 'vocal for local'," he added.

Additionally, PM Modi discussed the successful celebration of International Yoga Day, noting participation in Kashmir, where people of all ages joined in the festivities. He also touched on the global acclaim of Indian films and achievements in afforestation, highlighting the ongoing progress and enthusiasm in these areas. In summary, PM Modi’s 'Mann Ki Baat' focused on celebrating environmental and cultural initiatives while encouraging global participation in meaningful causes.
