PM Modi leaves for India after concluding a Substantive visit to U.S

Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for India after concluding his United state during which he held top-level bilateral discussions with U.S President Donald Trump on a range of subjects, including defence, security, trade, technology, energy and people-oriented ties.

Modi arrived in the United states from France on February 12. On February 13, Trump hosted him for their first official meeting since starting his second term as president on January 20.

During their discussions, both leaders agreed to strengthen ties in important areas like defense, energy, and advanced technology. They also talked about regional and global issues that matter to both countries.

After the meeting, Modi shared a post on social media X, calling it an EXCELLENT discussion. He said the talks would "give a big boost to the India-USA friendship." He also mentioned Trump's "MAGA" (Make America Great Again) slogan and compared it to India’s goal of a Developed India or Viksit Bharat, saying together, both countries have a MEGA partnership for prosperity.

Modi also said that India and the US want to double their trade to $500 billion by 2030. He added that both countries will soon finalize a trade deal that benefits both sides.

Following their talks, Trump made a big announcement, stating that the US is preparing to provide India with advanced F-35 fighter jets as part of a multi-billion-dollar defense deal.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, speaking about Modi’s US visit, said it was very meaningful and productive. He noted that Modi's visit, coming just weeks after Trump’s inauguration, showed how important the India-US relationship is to both leaders.

During his trip, Modi also met top US officials, including National Security Advisor Michael Waltz and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. He also spoke with business leaders like Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

Before visiting the US, Modi spent two days in France. He co-chaired the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris and had bilateral discussions with him. They focused on trade, investment, and strengthening ties in the Indo-Pacific region. The two leaders also inaugurated India’s new consulate in Marseille.

In France, Modi also met US Vice President J.D. Vance, his Indian-origin wife Usha, and their two sons. This was his first meeting with a senior official from Trump’s new administration.
