New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi on Saturday recalled Swami Vivekananda's historic speech at the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893, saying its spirit has the potential to create a more equitable, prosperous, and inclusive world. Vivekananda's speech, which is deeply considered Hinduism and Indian culture, was widely praised and is still echoed today.

 

PM Modi tweeted, "Recalling Swami Vivekananda’s iconic 1893 speech at Chicago, which beautifully demonstrated the salience of Indian culture. The spirit of his speech has the potential to create a more just, prosperous, and inclusive planet.'' Union Home Minister Amit Shah also recalled Swami Vivekananda's speech and tweeted, "Today is the 128th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda Ji's historic speech in Chicago. This speech that introduces the world to India's culture is a source of inspiration for us. I urge the youth to read Swami Ji's speech and contribute to nation-building.''

The speech was started by Swami Vivekananda with 'My American Sisters and Brothers' and then he expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Hindus at the beginning of the speech. He said at the beginning of the speech, "My heart is filled with joy with this warm and grand welcome of yours and I thank you on behalf of the world's oldest saint tradition. I thank you on behalf of the mother of all religions and express my gratitude to you on behalf of millions of Hindus of all castes, sects.
