NEW DELHI:   Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold talks with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih of the Maldives, in New Delhi. After the negotiations, a number of agreements are anticipated to be signed.

The distinguished guest will also have a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu this evening at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Mr. Solih began a four-day trip around India yesterday when he arrived in New Delhi. Union Minister Dr. Sanjeev Balyan welcomed him. High-ranking authorities and corporate delegations are with him.

On Monday evening, the Maldivian President called on External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. Dr. Jaishankar said in a tweet that the Neighbourhood First policies of Maldives and India are compatible. He continued by saying that these initiatives advance the unique cooperation between India and the Maldives.

The Maldives hold a particular place in India's Neighborhood First policy and are its main neighbour in the Indian Ocean region. The collaboration has experienced significant expansion in recent years in all areas of cooperation, and the impending formal visit will provide the two leaders a chance to assess the development of this extensive partnership.

The Maldives is one of India's principal maritime neighbours in the Indian Ocean, and overall bilateral ties, particularly those in the fields of defence and security, have been improving recently.
President Solih will visit Mumbai and take part in commercial activities in addition to his official obligations in New Delhi.

The relationship between India and the Maldives has improved after Solih assumed control of the presidency in November 2018.
