Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday  that the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' is turning into a mass movement and called for people to put 'tiranga' as profile picture of their social media accounts between August 2 and 15.

Modi mentioned in his Mann Ki Baat radio address that a special campaign called "Har Ghar Tiranga" is being held between August 13 and 15 as part of the "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" programme to commemorate India's 75th anniversary of independence. Throughout the campaign, he asked people to host or display the flag at home. He said, "Let us advance this cause by raising the National Flag at our residences. The PM also advised people to make the tricolour their profile pictutre on social media from August 2 through 15, adding that August 2 is the birth anniversary of Pingali Venkayya, the person who created the flag.

The prime minister expressed his happiness that the Mahotsav is transforming into a national popular movement, with participants coming from all facets of society and all walks of life. He said, referring to August 15, "When India completes 75 years of its Independence, all of us are going to witness a wonderful and historic moment." It is fortunate for the current generation to experience the 75th anniversary of Independence Day. The strongest lesson that emerges from all events being held in the "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" is that countrymen should follow their duties with full dedication, he claimed. "Had we been born in the era of slavery, then how would we have envisaged this day," he said. Only then, he said, will we be able to realise the aspirations of those innumerable liberation fighters and create the India they had imagined.

That is why this 'Amrit Kaal' of our next 25 years is "Kartavyakaal", a period of duty for every citizen. On Sunday, the one-year anniversary of Udham Singh's death, the prime minister also paid tribute to him. Modi noted that there are many railway stations connected to the history of the liberation movement, and that 75 of them have been recognised throughout 24 states will host several programmes.
