New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to officially open 3024 newly built EWS flats in Kalkaji, Delhi today evening, that was erected for the purpose of rehabilitating slum inhabitants as part of the "In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation" Project.
The PM will hand over keys to eligible beneficiaries from the Bhoomiheen Camp during a ceremony at Delhi's Vigyan Bhawan, said the Prime Minister's Office. The event is scheduled for 4:30 PM this day.
"The Delhi Development Authority is carrying out in-situ slum rehabilitation in 376 Jhuggi Jhopri clusters in accordance with the Prime Minister's goal of providing accommodation for everyone (DDA). The aim of the renovation project is to give residents of the Jhuggi Jhopri clusters a better and healthier living environment with adequate amenities and services" read an official statement by the PMO.
Three of these projects have been commenced by the Delhi Development Authority in Kathputli Colony, Jailorwala Bagh, and Kalkaji Extension.
Three slum clusters viz.Bhoomiheen Camp, Navjeevan Camp, and Jawahar Camp, located in Kalkaji are being in-situ rehabilitated throughout the course of the Kalkaji Extension Project. At the nearby vacant commercial centre site, 3024 EWS flats have been built as part of Phase I. Bhoomiheen Camp's eligible households will be relocated to the newly built EWS flats in order to free up the Jhuggi Jhopri site there.
Post vacation of Bhoomiheen Campsite, in the second phase, this vacated site will be used for rehabilitation of Navjeevan Camp and Jawahar Camp, the source said.
3024 apartments have been completed Phase I of the project and are ready for occupancy. These apartments were built for around Rs. 345 crores and come complete with all public utilities, including vitrified floor tiles, ceramic tiles, a Udaipur green marble counter in the kitchen, etc. Also, public amenities have been offered. The citizens will receive ownership titles and a sense of security from the apartment allocation" the statement added.
