Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the International Telecommunication Union-World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly (ITU-WTSA) 2024 today at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Alongside this, he will also open the eighth edition of the India Mobile Congress 2024, which is themed 'The Future is Now.'

In a tweet, PM Modi expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "A big day for the telecom sector! At 10 a.m. tomorrow, October 15, the International Telecommunication Union-World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly and the India Mobile Congress 2024 will be inaugurated. These forums are important ones, bringing together leading stakeholders from across the sector."

The ITU-WTSA is expected to attract around 3,000 industry leaders, policymakers, and tech experts from more than 190 countries, all converging at Bharat Mandapam. This event marks a significant moment for India as it plays a pivotal role in setting global telecom standards.

Union Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, highlighted the importance of this gathering, saying, "This historic event is a milestone for India. We will shape the future of global standards, ensuring connectivity for all while showcasing our tech strength." He further emphasized the need for innovation to flourish collectively, not in isolation.

Scindia also spoke about India's rapid technological advancements, particularly the roll-out of 5G across 36 states and union territories in just 22 months, covering 98% of the districts. He also mentioned India's achievements with Global Stack technologies like UPI, Aadhaar, and DigiLocker, which has stored around 6.75 billion documents for 300 million users.

The Minister highlighted that the 5G roll-out is projected to contribute $450 billion to India's economy by 2040.

The ITU-WTSA is a significant global conference that sets the framework for the International Telecommunication Union's standardization work, organized every four years. This year marks the first time it is being hosted in India and the Asia-Pacific region, positioning India as a key player in global telecom decision-making.

The event will also provide Indian startups and research institutions an opportunity to gain crucial insights into developing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and patents.

In addition to the ITU-WTSA, the India Mobile Congress 2024 will highlight India's vibrant innovation ecosystem, showcasing advancements in quantum technology and the circular economy. It is Asia's largest digital technology forum, offering a platform for telecom companies, innovators, and startups to present cutting-edge solutions and technologies.

More than 400 exhibitors and 900 startups from over 120 countries are expected to participate, displaying over 900 technology use case scenarios. The event will also feature more than 100 sessions and discussions led by over 600 speakers from India and around the world.
