Meerut: Political parties are gearing up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with candidates being announced and election campaigns being organized across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to kick off his campaign with a rally in Meerut on March 30, where he will support BJP candidate Arun Govil. Notably, the National President of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Jayant Chaudhary, will also share the stage with PM Modi during this rally.

The RLD is contesting the Lok Sabha elections in alliance with the BJP, securing two Lok Sabha seats - Bijnor and Baghpat - as well as a Legislative Council seat. Following this alliance, Jayant Chaudhary will campaign for BJP candidates, while senior BJP leaders will reciprocate by campaigning for RLD candidates. This collaboration will be highlighted during PM Modi's rally in Meerut.

The Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases, with voting scheduled to begin on April 19 and conclude on June 1. Meerut, which will vote in the second phase on April 26, holds significance as one of Uttar Pradesh's 80 Lok Sabha constituencies. With a population of around 3.5 million, Meerut has a diverse demographic, with Hindus comprising 65% and Muslims 36%.

Meerut's political landscape is crucial, encompassing five assembly constituencies and serving as a pivotal center in western Uttar Pradesh. Historically, Meerut has been associated with significant political movements, including the Congress flag being hoisted during the first Lok Sabha elections in 1952. However, subsequent elections saw shifts in power dynamics, with different parties gaining prominence over the years.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP's Rajendra Aggarwal emerged victorious in Meerut, securing over 5.8 lakh votes. This victory marked a continuation of BJP's dominance in Uttar Pradesh, which began in the 2014 elections, with Meerut playing a pivotal role in the party's success.
