Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to become the first Indian prime minister in 50 years to visit Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir. The visit, scheduled for today, marks a significant step in the run-up to the upcoming assembly elections, as confirmed by Union Minister Jitendra Singh.

Union Minister Singh, who oversaw preparations for the rally on September 14, highlighted the importance of PM Modi’s visit. “This will be the first time in five decades that a prime minister will visit Doda. The people are thrilled, as PM Modi has made the development of remote regions a priority,” Singh said.

He further emphasized the progress made in Doda over the last decade. “Doda has undergone rapid development in the last 10 years. PM Modi’s visit will highlight the work done to bring remote areas on par with more developed regions of the country,” Singh added.

'Naya Kashmir' and Development Initiatives

Singh also spoke about PM Modi’s vision of a “Naya Kashmir” and the transformation of the region under BJP leadership. “Startups have seen a tremendous boost, increasing from 30 to nearly 900 in recent years,” he said, underscoring the area's progress.

Confident about the BJP’s prospects in the elections, Singh expressed optimism about securing all seats in the first phase. Comparing the current administration’s achievements with the previous Congress-NC alliance, he remarked, “It now takes just 2-3 hours to reach Jammu, thanks to new road networks—a major improvement from the past.”

Three-Phase Election in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir's assembly elections will be conducted in three phases: on September 18, September 25, and October 1. The region comprises 90 assembly constituencies, including 7 reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and 9 for Scheduled Tribes (ST). The results will be announced on October 8, with 8.8 million voters eligible to participate.
