PM Modi to preside over annual BRICS summit, 'Afghan crisis' and 'terrorism' will be major issues

New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi will lead the annual summit of the five-nation group BRICS (Brazil, Russia, China, India, and South Africa) through video conferencing on Thursday. This has been reported by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). India is presiding over BRICS in 2021. The meeting will be attended by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The meeting is likely to discuss the latest situation in Afghanistan. According to PMO, India's National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, New Development Bank Chairman Marcos Troyjo, TEMPORARY CHAIRMAN OF BRICS Business Council Omkar Kanwar, and Temporary Chairman of BRICS Women's Business Alliance Dr. Sangeeta Reddy will present details of the work done throughout the year as part of their respective obligations to the Heads of State present at the summit on the occasion.

This time the theme of the summit is "BRICS@15: Inter-BRICS Continuity, Solidarity and Cooperation for Consensus." PMO said that under its chairmanship, India has prepared a roadmap for four primary areas. These four areas include multi-level systems, terrorist protests, the adoption of digital and technological measures to achieve sustainable development goals, and enhancing people-to-people interaction. In addition to these areas, the president present will also exchange views on the side effects of the Corona epidemic and current global and regional issues.
