GANDHINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to visit Gujarat's Morbi tomorrow (November 1), the state chief minister's office announced today.
The estimates said that after a cable suspension bridge in Morbi town fell on Sunday, throwing people into the Machchhu River, at least 132 people, including women and children, were killed and more than 100 are currently being treated for their injuries.
PM Modi, who is currently in Kevadia said that rescue operations were underway and there would be no laxity in rescue and relief endeavors.
"Since yesterday, the Gujarati government has been conducting relief and rescue operations. The State Government is receiving full support from the Center as well "said the Prime Minister.
"A committee has been set up by the state government to look into this issue. I reassure the nation's citizens that there won't be any slack in the rescue and relief efforts "said PM Modi. The prime minister made this statement while addressing a gathering at Ekta Nagar, Kevadia, on the occasion of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's 147th birthday.
"To the families of those who perished in the accident, I offer my sympathies. The government is supporting grieving families in every way possible at this difficult time. Since yesterday, the Gujarati government has been conducting relief and rescue activities. The State Government is receiving full support from the Center as well "said PM Modi.
"Even though I'm in Ekta Nagar, the Morbi victims are on my thoughts. I had never before in my life felt such agony. A heart filled with anguish is one thing, but the road to responsibility is quite another "declared the prime minister.
The chief minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, arrived in Morbi last night and has been in charge of search and rescue operations since then, according to the prime minister.

The prime minister postponed his roadshow in Ahmedabad today while on a three-day trip to Gujarat and Rajasthan.
At least 130 fatalities have been reported thus far as a result of the suspension bridge that was across the Machchhu River in the Morbi district collapsing. People were seen tumbling into the river below in the images.
In connection with the tragic bridge collapse, the Gujarat Police have submitted a First Information Report under IPC sections 304 and 308 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
A five-member committee has been established by the Gujarati government to investigate the bridge collapse tragedy.
