"Since yesterday, the Gujarati government has been conducting relief and rescue operations. The State Government is receiving full support from the Center as well "said the Prime Minister.

"A committee has been set up by the state government to look into this issue. I reassure the nation's citizens that there won't be any slack in the rescue and relief efforts "said PM Modi. The prime minister made this statement while addressing a gathering at Ekta Nagar, Kevadia, on the occasion of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's 147th birthday.

"Even though I'm in Ekta Nagar, the Morbi victims are on my thoughts. I had never before in my life felt such agony. A heart filled with anguish is one thing, but the road to responsibility is quite another "declared the prime minister.
The chief minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, arrived in Morbi last night and has been in charge of search and rescue operations since then, according to the prime minister.

"A committee has been established by the state government to look into this issue. I reassure the nation's citizens that there won't be any slack in the rescue and relief efforts "said PM Modi. The prime minister postponed his roadshow in Ahmedabad today while on a three-day trip to Gujarat and Rajasthan.

At least 130 fatalities have been reported thus far as a result of the suspension bridge that was across the Machchhu River in the Morbi district collapsing. People were seen tumbling into the river below in the images.

In connection with the tragic bridge collapse, the Gujarat Police have submitted a First Information Report under IPC sections 304 and 308 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
