New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed Chaitra Navratri's greetings to the people on Saturday.

"All the countrymen have a happy Navratri. May this Shakti-worshipping event pour new energy into everyone's life "The Prime Minister sent out a tweet.

A significant number of devotees gathered at Mata Vaishno Devi Temple in Katra, Jammu, to offer prayers as the Chaitra Navratri began today. Across the country, similar images could be observed in Durga temples. Devotees began forming lines at Delhi's Jhandewalan Temple, Varanasi's Durga Temple, and Mumbai's Mumba Devi Temple. Chaitra Navratri, also known as Vasant Navratri, is a nine-day Hindu festival that takes place during the spring season.

The festival will take place from April 2 to April 11 this year. The first day of Chaitra Navratri occurs during the moon's 'Shukla Paksha,' or full moon phase. The rituals undertaken to worship Goddess Durga during the nine days change from day today. It also commemorates Lord Rama's birthday, which comes on the ninth day of the Navratri festival, hence the name Rama Navratri.

The celebration is similar to Maha Navratri, which is dedicated to Goddess Durga's nine various manifestations, collectively known as Navdurga. According to the Vikram Samwat calendar, today is also the Hindu New Year.
