New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded the G20 Summit by handing over the G20 presidency gavel to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva with a prayer for peace, "Swati Astu Vishwa," which roughly translates to "let there be peace in the world." This gesture followed the adoption of the New Delhi Leaders' Summit Declaration on Saturday, a significant achievement at the G20 Summit. Despite conflicts among G20 negotiators over the Ukraine issue, the G20 leaders came together and unanimously adopted the Delhi Declaration, emphasizing that the current era must not be defined by war.

In his closing remarks, Prime Minister Modi declared the end of the G20 Summit, expressing hope for a future marked by unity and joy, guided by the principles of "One Earth, One Family, and One Future." India continues to hold the G20 presidency until November 2023, and Prime Minister Modi proposed a virtual session in November to review the suggestions and proposals put forth during the Summit. As Brazil assumes the G20 presidency for 2024, PM Modi congratulated President Lula and praised his efficient leadership of the G20 bloc. President Lula emphasized the importance of addressing global inequality, spanning income, access to healthcare, education, food, gender, race, and representation. He called for the inclusion of new developing countries as permanent and non-permanent members in the UN Security Council to enhance its political strength.

In a symbolic ceremony, Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, representing the G20 presidencies of the past and future, presented saplings to the current chair at the 'One Future' session of the G20 Summit. During the 'One Future' session, PM Modi called for reforms in global bodies like the United Nations to reflect the world's new realities. He highlighted the need for immediate, effective decisions to expand the mandates of multilateral development banks. The G20 leaders paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on the second day of the summit, followed by a tree-planting ceremony at the G20 venue, Bharat Mandapam.

The historic G20 Summit's first day witnessed a diplomatic triumph as the consensus declaration overcame major differences on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Prime Minister Modi also announced the admission of the African Union as a permanent member of the G20. India, holding the G20 presidency, emphasized the theme of 'One Earth, One Family, One Future' for this year's summit.
