New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched the Biotech Startup Expo. Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said that the Biotech Startup Expo is a reflection of the growth of India's biotech sector. In the last 8 years, India's bio-economy has grown 8 times. Today we have gone from $10 billion to $80 billion.

PM Modi said, "The confidence of our IT professionals in the world about their skills and innovation is at a new height. This is the belief, this is the reputation that we are seeing in this decade for India's biotech sector, and India's bio-professionals. PM Modi has said that India is being seen as a land of opportunities in the field of biotech.'' He also gave five major reasons for this. "The first reason for this is the diverse population, the diverse climatic zones, the second - India's talented human capital pool, the third - the increasing efforts for ease of doing business in India, the fourth - the ever-increasing demand for bio-products in India and the fifth reason is the track record of your successes in India's biotech sector.''

PM Modi further said that all the steps that we have taken over the years under the Atal Innovation Mission, Make in India and Self-Reliant India Campaign have also benefited the biotech sector. Since the launch of Startup India, the number of people investing in our biotech startups has increased by 9 times. In 2014, there were only 6 bio-incubators in our country, today the number has increased to 75. There were 10 biotech products in the country 8 years ago, today their number has increased to more than 700.
