New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi today announced the return of all the three agricultural laws in his address to the nation. PM Modi's decision is being welcomed everywhere from the ruling party to the opposition leader. PM Modi's announcement is politically significant as assembly elections are proposed in five states of the country including Punjab and Uttar Pradesh next year. The farmers agitating on the borders adjoining Delhi include the highest number of farmers from these two states. PM Modi's announcement could not only help the BJP save power in UP but also help in spreading its track in Punjab's politics.

The end of the year-long agitation is a big relief for the BJP, which is facing the wrath of farmers in Punjab. Not only did the Shiromani Akali Dal (Shi'ad) break its 24-year-old electoral alliance with the BJP for agricultural laws, but the party had also faced the wrath of Sikh farmers in rural Punjab. Now, the BJP is expected to benefit from PM Modi's decision. Just a few days ago, the Central Government had announced the reopening of the Kartarpur corridor. With the cancellation of agricultural laws, Captain Amarinder Singh along with the BJP has announced to contest the Punjab elections, which could benefit the BJP.

On the other hand, the impact of Kisan Andalone was also visible in western Uttar Pradesh. The anger was further compounded after four farmers were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri violence on October 3. Assembly elections are proposed in the state next year. Opposition parties will now have to change the three agricultural laws and plans to corner the Yogi and Modi governments in the name of farmers. Opposition parties were hoping for a farmers' agitation in this part of UP, but the issue is now over with the PM's announcement.
