Chennai: Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in India on Friday on his two-day visit. His plane landed at Chennai Airport, from where Jinping reached Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu. Chinese President Jinping was accorded a warm welcome at Mahabalipuram. PM Narendra Modi himself reached Mahabalipuram to welcome Chinese President Jinping. PM Modi made Chinese President Xi Jinping first visit the shrines and then gift.
PM Modi has gifted Thanjavur painting (Dancing Saraswati) and Nachiyarkoil-Branch Annam Lamp as a gift to Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two leaders took part in a cultural program organized in the Shore temple complex and enjoyed folk dances. Saraswati's picture remains in the painting of Thanjavur presented by PM Modi to the Chinese President. This painting has been prepared by B. Loganathan. It took 45 days to make it.
The painting of Thanjavur is also known as Palagai Padam. It is a very ancient painting done on wood. The name of this painting is also named Thanjavur after the name of Tanjore city in Tamil Nadu. It is said to be at its peak during the rule of the Nayaks and Maratha rulers in the 16th century. This art received new encouragement and patronage under the Maratha rule in the 17th century. Photos of Hindu deities and saints are commonly seen in Thanjavur paintings.
