New Delhi: In a digital conference on Monday between PM Modi and Vietnam's Nguyen Xuan Phuc, there are likely to be several agreements and some special announcements to further expand the overall bilateral relations including defence, energy and health sectors. Official sources gave information in this regard. Sources say that the issue of emerging situation in the Indo-Pacific region is likely to arise mainly during the discussion, as both countries have a common interest in a free, open, peaceful, prosperous and regulated regional system.
He said that in the meeting, both sides can issue a joint vision for the future development of the India-Vietnam overall strategic partnership, which will aim to set the path for increasing cooperation in diverse fields. India and Vietnam expanded their bilateral relations in 2016 to an overall strategic partnership. Defence cooperation has been one of the important pillars of this rapidly growing bilateral relationship. Sources said defence loan assistance for high-speed patrol boats to Vietnam is expected to be pursued during the meeting.
India's attitude towards China has changed after the Ladakh incident. Working on the changed strategy, India is now strengthening its ties with China's neighbouring countries. Also, India is training Vietnam military officers under its Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation - ITEC program. Under this, officers there come to India every year. After this, they are given training in the Army, Air Force and Naval Operations as well as Commando Operations.
