New Delhi: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Nagaland Governor La Ganesan in Delhi. During their discussion, they covered a range of topics concerning the state of Nagaland, including security and development plans. La Ganesan, who was appointed as the 19th Governor of Nagaland by President Droupadi Murmu in February 2023, previously served as the Governor of West Bengal. A former member of parliament and General Secretary of Tamil Nadu, Ganesan's political career includes significant roles in Indian politics.

Earlier in the day, on National Sports Day—commemorating the birthday of Major Dhyan Chand—Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to the legendary hockey player. In a tweet, PM Modi highlighted the importance of recognizing individuals who have passionately contributed to sports and represented India on the global stage. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to fostering a supportive environment for sports at all levels, encouraging young Indians to excel.

"Greetings on National Sports Day. Today we pay homage to Major Dhyan Chand Ji. It is an occasion to compliment all those passionate about sports and those who have played for India. Our Government is committed to supporting sports and ensuring more youth are able to play and shine," PM Modi wrote on X.

Additionally, PM Modi had a telephonic conversation with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to discuss the state's flood situation and the relief measures being undertaken. CM Patel reported that PM Modi expressed concern about the flooding of the Vishwamitri river in Vadodara and sought updates on the assistance provided to affected residents. Patel noted that the Prime Minister offered guidance on quickly restoring public life and managing the ongoing crisis.

"As it has been raining heavily for the last three days across Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji once again had a telephonic conversation with me this morning to get information about the situation. He learned about the relief measures for the affected people of various districts of the state. Expressing concern over the flooding of the Vishwamitri river in Vadodara, he sought details of the relief and assistance being provided to the affected people," CM Patel stated in a post on X.
