New Delhi: Emergency was announced in the country on 25 June 1975. On the completion of 45 years of Emergency, PM Narendra Modi has said that the Emergency was imposed on the nation exactly 45 years ago. People who fought for the protection of India's democracy suffered torture, I salute them all! The country will never forget their sacrifice and valour.

PM Modi said that "When the Emergency was imposed, its opposition was not just political. The movement was not limited to prison bars only. There was resentment in the minds of the people. There was a yearning for lost democracy. What is the importance of democracy in normal life, it is known when someone takes away democratic rights". PM Modi said, "In the Emergency, all the people of the country felt that something had been taken away from them, which they did not use, it was a pain if it was snatched away. India can say with pride that democracy is in our values, beyond the rules and regulations. Democracy is our culture, heritage. We have grown up on that legacy."
