New Delhi: Addressing the centenary convocation of Mysore University virtually, PM Modi said that the ongoing efforts in higher education for the last 5-6 years are not confined to opening new institutions only. These institutions have been working out to ensure gender and social participation from improving governance.
PM Modi said, "More automobiles are also being given to such institutions. He briefed about the new institutions opened in the country in the last six years and said that seven new IIMs have been set up in the last five to six years. Before that, there were 13 IIMs in the country. Similarly, for nearly six decades, only seven AIIMS were present in the country in the country. After the year 2014, it has doubled, 15 AIIMS have either been established in the country or are under construction".
He said, "Even after so many years of independence, there were 16 IITs in the country before 2014. On an average, a new IIT has been opened every year in the last six years. One IIT opened in Dharwad in Karnataka. In the subsequent 5 years, 16 IITs will be built."
