PM to flag off the first Vande Bharat Express to Kerala tomorrow

KERALA: At Thiruvananthapuram Central Station, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will signal the beginning of the first Vande Bharat Express in Kerala between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasargod, on Tuesday, 25 April 2023.

The Vande Bharat train will cover 11 districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasargod.

The Vande Bharat Express is an indigenously produced, semi-speed, self-propelled train setting Modern passenger amenities on board the train make for a speedier, more comfortable, and more convenient journey for passengers.

On April 25, while visiting Kerala, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for many projects totaling more than Rs 3,200 crore.

The Prime minister will officially open the Kochi Water Metro, a groundbreaking project that uses battery-operated electric hybrid boats to connect 10 islands around Kochi for seamless communication with the metropolis. The Prime Minister will also dedicate the rail electrification of the Dindigul-Palani-Palakkad stretch in addition to the Kochi Water Metro.

PM Modi will also lay the groundwork for a number of rail projects at the event, including the renovation of the Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, and Varkala Sivagiri railway stations, the comprehensive development of the Thiruvananthapuram area, including Nemon and Kochuveli, and the boosting of the sectional speed of the Thiruvananthapuram-Shoranur section.

In addition, the Prime Minister will officially lay the foundations stone for Thiruvananthapuram's Digital Science Park.In order for business and industry to work together with academia to develop digital goods and services, Digital Science Park is envisioned as a vital research site. The Digital Science Park will have shared facilities for the development of products in the domain of Industry 4.0 Technologies like AI, Data Analytics, Cyber Security, and Smart Materials, among others, as per  PMO statement. It is a third-generation Science Park.

Modern fundamental infrastructure will facilitate top-tier applied research by businesses and the joint product development of universities and businesses. While the total project cost has been projected at about Rs 1,515 crore, the first investment for Phase 1 of the project is close to Rs 200 crore.
