The prime accused of PNB's Rs 14,000-crore scandal and promoter of Gitanjali James, Mehul Choksi has adopted a new stance to avoid returning to India. On Tuesday, investigating agencies have revealed that Mehul Choksi had escaped from the US and reached Antigua and he has secured citizenship here. Now, this is his new plan.

After the disclosure of the PNB scam, investigating agencies are in search of Mehul Choksi who is the relative of the main accused of the scam, Nirav Modi. It is said that Neerav Modi is hidden in Brussels. It may be mentioned that earlier Mehul Choksi had appealed to the special court to cancel the non-bailable warrant issued against him on Monday. He claimed that if he returns to India the crowd will kill him too.

The Special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) Court issued non-bailable warrants against Choksi in March and July this year. He took this action while taking cognizance of the chargesheet filed against him by the Enforcement Directorate.  In his petition in the PMLA court, Choksi claimed that his life is not only threatened by former employees and lenders but where he will be kept on return, there is danger from prison staff and inmates.

The petition says that it is impossible for the petitioner to operate the company. Employees are not paid their salaries and their money to the lenders. In this case, all these people are angry with him and he is in danger of being killed. In his petition, Choksi claimed that many incidents of mob violence in recent days have come down in India. There has been a tremendous increase in mob violence in the country and the public on the road to justice.

How Mehul got Antigua citizenship?

According to the law of Antigua, if someone here buys property worth four million US dollars, then he gets citizenship there. Apart from this, if a businessman invests $ 1.5 million in Antigua, he can still get the citizenship of Antigua.
