Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court has asked the state government to exercise restraint while implementing the lockdown. The High Court has also directed the Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) to issue guidelines to the police not to use sticks while implementing the lockdown.
A bench of Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Abhay Srinivas Oka on Tuesday asked the BS Yeddyurappa government to exercise restraint over the lockdown while hearing issues related to Covid-19. During the hearing, several lawyers said that police are using sticks to enforce lockdown and those leaving the house are being beaten up.
The Advocate General of Karnataka said that the situation is not the same as is being shown in some videos going viral on social media. However, the Advocate General assured to take up the issue with the state home department immediately. The court asked Karnataka DGP Praveen Sood to send guidelines to ensure that sticks are not used while enforcing lockdown. However, the court also asked people to seriously follow the lockdown rules laid down by the government.
