New Delhi: Voting for members of the Parliament's Upper House on 16 Rajya Sabha seats spread across four states will take place today, amid speculations of horse-trading and fears of cross-voting.

The polls will open at 9 a.m. and close at 4 p.m.

After the biennial elections to 57 Rajya Sabha seats were declared yesterday, all 41 candidates from Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, and Telangana were elected unopposed on Friday.

However, due to a large number of candidates, polling for the 16 seats located across Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Karnataka will be taken place today.

Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman, as well as Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Randeep Surjewala, and Mukul Wasnik, will all have their fates decided at 5 p.m. when the ballots are counted. Notably, Discontent had surfaced in the Congress party following the announcement of Upper House nominations.
