New Delhi: The people of the capital do not seem to get relief from the polluted air at present. Incidents of stubble burning in neighboring states may worsen the air condition from Monday. On Sunday, the Air Quality Index (AQI) has shown an improvement of 33 points as compared to Saturday, despite its wind can enter the poor category. The main reason is more incidents of stubble burning.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the QI remained at 254 till four in the evening on Sunday, compared to 287 on Saturday. In Punjab and Haryana, more incidents of stubble burning are coming out this year compared to last year. The main reason for this is that the crops are being harvested and there is a shortage of labors. According to an official of the Ministry of Meteorology, the wind blowing towards the north-west during the day on Sunday is carrying pollutants arising from the burning of stubble.
It has been learned that pollution particles are collecting at night due to slow movement of air and the fall in temperature. This is the reason that these days the air level in the capital is running in a poor category. According to air standards body of the Department of Earth Sciences, 882 incidents of stubble burning have been reported in Haryana, Punjab and surrounding areas till Saturday.
According to the information received, due to the burning of stubble, the air quality was also recorded at 19 percent on Saturday. According to the department's warning system, the mixing depth and average wind speed of 12,500 cubic meters per second in the capital on Sunday helped the pollutants to accumulate. Stubble was expected to burn less this year, but more cases are coming out. A large amount of silica is found in the stubble.
