VATICAN CITY: The Vatican in its statement said that Pope Francis' health is in a serious condition, Complex Clinical Situation. He has been in Rome's Gemelli Hospital for four days, receiving treatment for bronchitis. Doctors say he has a polymicrobial infection, meaning multiple germs are causing the illness. Because of this, his treatment has been changed.

The Pope has been battling a respiratory infection for over a week. Due to his health, the Vatican has canceled his usual Wednesday audience in St. Peter's Square. Last Sunday, he was too unwell to lead the usual prayers for visitors but joined Mass from the hospital. His message was read out by Cardinal Jose Tolentino de Mendonca at St. Peter's Basilica.

On Monday, the Vatican said the Pope’s infection had led to a change in treatment. However, a later update confirmed that he was stable, had no fever, and was continuing with the prescribed treatment. Despite his illness, he managed to read and do some work from the hospital.

The Pope is deeply moved by the many kind messages and prayers he has received. He also thanked fellow patients in the hospital for their drawings and good wishes, saying he is praying for them and asking them to pray for him too.

Before being admitted to the hospital last week, Pope Francis had bronchitis symptoms for several days. He had to ask others to read his speeches at events. Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni said the Pope remains in good spirits despite his condition.

The Vatican added that all medical tests show a complicated health situation that requires continued hospital care. Doctors have advised him to rest completely to help his recovery. Over the weekend, he had a video call with the Holy Family Parish in Gaza.

On Sunday, Fr. Romanelli received a message from the Pope thanking the parish for their prayers. The Pope could not lead his usual Sunday prayer in St. Peter’s Square or attend a special Mass for artists as part of the Catholic Church's Jubilee Year.

Many people gathered outside St. Peter's Basilica to wish him well. One Rome resident, Armando, called him A GREAT SOUL and AN INSPIRATION FOR US ALL.

Pope Francis has faced many health issues in the past. In 2023, he was hospitalized twice: once for bronchitis and later for a hernia operation. He also had to cancel a trip to the UAE for the COP28 climate summit. In December, he appeared with a bruise on his chin after a minor fall. In January, he fell again and injured his arm, which had to be placed in a sling.

Now, as he continues his treatment, people around the world are hoping and praying for his recovery.
