New Delhi: There is going to be more burden on the common man's pocket, buying vegetables. Because after the price of onions and pulses, the prices of potatoes are touching the sky. In the last 10 days, retail prices of potatoes have increased by more than 100 percent. The price of potato has gone up to Rs. 40-50 per kg. Its prices have increased by two to three times in December as compared to the last year.

However, experts say that potato prices will return to normal in a few days. In Delhi's retail markets, the average price of potato was Rs 40 per kg on Saturday, which sold up to Rs 50 the next day. Last week it was in the range of 20 to 25 rupees. The maximum wholesale price in Azadpur mandi was Rs 21 per kg, the same potato was being sold for Rs 6-10 per kg in December 2018. Due to this, potato traders have increased prices due to decrease in arrival of new potatoes from Punjab and the withdrawal due to rain.

The trend of potato prices is completely different from onions. This increase is technical, which will soon become normal. However, retail prices will remain at the 20-25 level. Supply of new potatoes from UP starts in January-February. Apart from potatoes, most of the green vegetables have also become expensive due to rain and hail. The prices of cabbage, spinach, tomatoes have also gone up by 50-60% over the previous December.
