New Delhi: As everyone will know that yesterday i.e. Sunday 8 March 2020 was International Women's Day. This day was also celebrated with great pomp but some women activists termed PM Narendra Modi's decision to hand over his social media accounts to them to honor women who are inspiring real life, while others called it a "glaring initiative'' to divert attention from the issues facing the country. On the occasion of Women's Day, Modi said that seven women who have achieved a special place in life will share their life's journey with his social media accounts on Sunday. Monica Arora, the national convener of the Group of Intellectuals and Academicians, called the move an honor for 'inspiring women in real life' who are 'serving humanity' at the grassroots level.

She said, 'The selection of women is fantastic. Such a girl was chosen on social media who has only 2000 followers, but she has been running a food bank for more than 5 years and feeding thousands of people. That is why the Prime Minister is honoring women who inspire in real life and not only women who inspire on the film screen." Arora said, "Another woman is a bomb blast victim. She is really inspiring. She is a person who changes the world."

Sources said that Shilpa Puranik, a member of the NGO Bhartiya Srishakti, said, 'I applaud the PM's decision as it is important to spread awareness on social media about women's empowerment'. However, some people have also criticized this exercise. She has described it as diverting the attention of the people facing the country. Human rights activist and CPI leader Annie Raja said that if the Prime Minister is really concerned about women's empowerment, then he should take action against the increasing cases of sexual exploitation. They should have announced that the Women's Reservation Bill was passed on Women's Day. This diverts attention from real issues.
