President and PM Modi expresses grief over death of former Assam Chief Minister

Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has passed away. He was 86 years old. He was on a ventilator in a hospital in Guwahati for a long time but now he has succumbed. As soon as the information about the demise of the former Chief Minister is received, many big leaders including the President, PM Modi have expressed deep condolences. President Ramnath Kovind tweeted, expressing grief, 'Extremely sad to know of the demise of Shri Tarun Gogoi, former Chief Minister of Assam. The country has lost a veteran leader with rich political and administrative experience. His long tenure in office was a period of epochal change in Assam. He will always be remembered for the development of Assam and especially for his efforts to improve law and order and fight extremism in the state. His demise marks the end of an era. '

 

He has also expressed deep condolences to his family, friends and supporters. Apart from him, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also made a tweet and said, 'Shri Tarun Gogoi Ji was a popular leader and a veteran administrator, who had years of political experience in Assam as well as the Centre. Anguished by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this hour of sadness. Om Shanti.' Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed deep sorrow over his death. In a tweet, he said, 'With a good personality, he made a significant contribution to the development and public life of Assam. My heartfelt condolences to his family and supporters.'

 

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, 'Tarun Gogoi was a true Congress leader. He dedicated his life to bring all the people and communities of Assam together. To me, he was a great and intelligent teacher. I loved and respected him very much. I will miss him forever'. Similarly, many leaders have expressed grief.
