President Biden: The US will be able to sell F-16s to Turkey

Vilnius: On Wednesday, Vice President Joe Biden of the US expressed optimism that Turkiye will be able to purchase F-16 fighter jets from the US.

As he was departing from the NATO summit in Lithuania, Biden made the remark to reporters.

Turkiye has been looking to purchase F-16 fighter jets and modernization kits for its existing warplanes, which had previously been the main obstacle in Sweden's path to joining NATO.

After meeting with Biden on Tuesday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan declared that he was "more hopeful than ever" about the sale of F-16 fighter jets from the US.

In consultation with Congress, the Biden administration will proceed with the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey, according to national security adviser Jake Sullivan on Tuesday, a day after Ankara approved Sweden's NATO membership.
