New Delhi: Abhinandan Samarth, who shot down Pakistan's F-16 fighter jet on the day after the Balakot air strike, has been awarded the 'Veer Chakra' today. President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the honour on the Wing Commander. Tell us that Abhinandan was wing commander in the Air Force during the Balakot Air Strike  and killed Pakistan's F-16.

It may be recalled that on February 14, 2019, Pakistan's terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed carried out a suicide attack on a CRPF convoy in Pulwama. In this attack, 40 Indian soldiers were killed in the attack. The Indian Air Force carried out an air strike in Balakot, Pakistan on the night of February 26-27 to give a befitting reply to the attack. More than 300 terrorists sitting in Pakistan were killed in India's air strike.

On February 27, the day after the air strike, the Pakistani Air Force tried to enter India, but was driven out by the Indian Air Force. Wing Commander Abhinandan was currently blowing Mig-21 at that time. They killed Pakistan's F-16 with the same fighter jet. However, Abhinandan's plane later crashed into pakistan's border, after which he was taken captive by the Pakistani army. But under Pressure from India, Pakistan released Abhinandan after nearly 60 hours.
